The Kirwan Institute served as a technical advisor to Building Responsibility, Equity, and Dignity (B.R.E.A.D.), a faith-based organization working for justice and inclusion in Columbus, Ohio. The Institute provided a report that comprehensively analyzes housing need in Franklin County (the Columbus metropolitan area). Kirwan researchers compared the need versus the supply of existing housing for different income groups; findings indicate that the current supply does not provide adequate affordable housing for extremely low- and very low-income households. Utilizing the research of the Institute, B.R.E.A.D. successfully lobbied for an expansion of the funding for the Franklin County housing trust fund and more targeted affordable housing development for the region’s lowest income families.
